Formidably Answered Questions

The main differences are the leather thickness and seam style.

The Vermonter is made of 4oz. full grain goat leather. The Flatlander is made of 3oz. full grain goat leather.

The Vermonter is made with the seams on the outside. The Flatlander is made with seams on the inside.

The gist is that the Vermonter is wicked super heavy duty, and the Flatlander is hella far out dexterous.

For all those out there who have a hand size right at the limit of their size… think long and hard about whether you want a snug fit or a loose, quick on and off fit. My hand barely fit inside the medium size chart. Nice chart BTW, super helpful. I would have mindlessly bought the large, but I used the hand size printout and discovered my hand fit into the medium. I thought to myself, wow ok, they know their product and these are expensive gloves - I’ll take their recommendation. I regret that The medium size is fine. They fit. As they break in they are fitting better. They are still snug and require a little wiggling to get off. And, the leather is so thick I don’t feel like I have any dexterity benefits. Not that I need them… I’m just cutting, splitting and stacking wood primarily. No need to pick up small things… So, 4 out of 5 stars for making me over think the glove size :) Great gloves. When these wear out I’ll buy a pair of large. Or maybe I’ll just buy a large and have two sets. A 20% discount for leaving this review would help make that decision :) :)

I have been very pleased. The gloves are soft, tough, and are perfect for what I am doing. I do not use them every day since I do not work outside, but when I work, they fit the need perfectly. I was concerned that they would not be worth the price, but they are.

I give a pair of these gloves as a gift to the male of the couple who host us when we travel overseas. It's a great memento of America, and of Vermont, my adopted state. I'm proud to be able to do it.

If you’re looking for gloves to pick up coins off the concrete floor…..these gloves are not for you. These are the toughest built gloves I e ever owned. Sizing is a little bit tricky, definitely size down from the gloves you get at the hardware store. My complaint is 1/2 sizes would be nice. I landed between Medium and Large. I own both sizes. Medium is too small and larger are more loose than I’m used to, but are still amazing. Definitely follow instructions on break in and treating them, it’s worth your time. These won’t be my last Vermont Gloves, but it will be a while before any replacements are needed.

I was very excited to gift these gloves to my hard-working husband for Christmas, however, after less than 3 months of wear, the seams are already coming apart. Cheap hardware store gloves have lasted 4 times as long as these hand-crafted expensive gloves! I am extremely disappointed in the craftsmanship!

The Vermonter

Store owner replied: Julie - Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry your gloves arrived with a defect, that's not the standard we hold ourselves to, and we take full responsibility. As soon as we learned of the issue, we reached out and offered a complimentary repair or replacement to make things right. We genuinely wish we'd had the chance to restore your confidence in the gloves. Our gloves are handcrafted, by us, in Vermont, and we stand behind every pair. Anyone with a concern about their gloves is encouraged to reach out to us. We'll always work to find a fair resolution. Lauren

I have very small hands. I'm really excited that the size x-small short fit great! They broke in quickly. I've been wearing them for 3 months handling cardboard boxes.

I’ve owned these gloves for 5 years and I have put them through everything imaginable. I’ve sent them back to Vermont Gloves twice for repair over the years and they have always comeback repaired better than my expectations. Not only are these gloves comfortable and tough, but they’re backed up by a company that believes in customer satisfaction. Just knowing that Vermont Glove stands behind them is reason enough to buy a pair.

Just starting to get broken in! We had a runaway tow-behind mower that I had to lean over to kill the engine when it stopped in a blackberry bramble. Not only do the gloves protect from the brambles but, as you can see, they kept my hand from getting torched when I had to lean across it to shut it off! Also, Lauren in customer service was super helpful in making sure I got gloves that fit my long fingers! Love these gloves!

Gloves are amazing and fit perfectly! I’m rough on equipment, I live on a River and have a Farm. It’s no holds barred for me. Got the gloves in January 2026. I have already hauled rocks, scrap metal and cutting logs. So far so good! Can’t wait to se how they do in the Georgia heat and humidity.

The only work I DON'T use them for involves my laptop. So glad I pulled the trigger on these amazing gloves. And, as a woman, I was so grateful for the choice of a Short in my size. Keep doing what you're doing. If every business out there was like Vermont Glove the world would actually work and function...very well in fact.

My kids gave me a pair of your gloves for Father’s Day. I’m 76 years old. I cut and split wood and remove invasive buckthorn on our property. With arthritis in my hands I could not believe what Vermont gloves did. They felt like arthritis compression gloves, and I could work much longer without any hand pain. While they may be a bit more expensive, they are more than worth it for the durability and comfort.

I love these gloves! They're comfortable, functional, and look great. I live and work on a Christmas tree farm in New England. After my first season with them, they're in great shape. Nothing extreme, but had no problem handing cold, snowy weather, chainsaws, hand saws, tree sap, branches, pine needles, and more.

I’ve only worn these gloves for a little over a month so they’re just now broken in, but I have to say these are exactly what I’ve been looking for. The quality of craftsmanship and material is outstanding. The leather is thick for protection and durability, but yet they fit like a second layer of skin and have remarkable dexterity. I have bought hundreds of pairs of gloves over the past 30 years looking for that one pair that lasts and I have always been let down. But these….these are the ones. Thank you Vermont Glove!

I wear work gloves for gardening and working daily. before I found Vermonters a pair of gloves would last a month or two. Vermonters have lasted nearly 2 years and still going strong. I love the fit and durability.

These Vermont-made goat leather gloves are an absolute ripper for someone like me, shredding the Snowy Mountains and tackling farm life. Whether I’m bombing down slopes on my snowboard, slogging up backcountry on my splitboard, wrestling with firewood, or wrangling farm chores, these gloves are tougher than a roo in a boxing ring. The quality is top-notch—soft yet burly goat leather that molds to my hands like a second skin, offering a fit so perfect I forget I’m wearing them, and they’ve shrugged off snow, mud, and splinters without any problems. Best gloves I’ve ever owned, hands-down—no pun intended. If you’re after gear that can keep up with an Aussie winter and a hard yakka lifestyle, these are your go-to.

After a short break-in using Neatsfoot oil they are perfect. The short fingers make the glove fit amazing. Several people saw me pulling, grabbing, demoing and no hand damage. I had to use my laser to put my name on them to protect from long term borrowing. Thanks for a great glove, I have purchased a second pair for backup in case someone walks away with them.

Customer photo review of The Vermonter

I love the gloves and I bought a pair for my son (welder and pipe fitter). My only issue, I have pre skin cancer on the back of my hands and I get that stuff frozen off every year. The elastic on the glove rubs right where I had “stuff” burned off and hurts like hell. I used a stitch cutter and took the elastic off of the left glove. Much better. It would be nice if you guys could put a leather strap in place of the elastic. You could stitch in two chrome d-rings on one side and add a leather strap on the other side… would look cool. Anyway, I used the glove all day today and noticed a slice on the right thumb of my glove. Never felt it and only went thru the top “skin” of the glove. Never felt whatever did the cutting, so perfecto. These gloves are cool and I hope you continue to manage this company from a people first position. You could make this company what you want but I bought the gloves because of how you make them and the personal care you take to continue to make your product great. Don’t loose that…it is The Most Important factor in the success of ANY organization.

These are the best work gloves. Nice thick leather to protect you from the fierce thorns we have in upstate NY! And putting the seams on the outside means your hands are comfortable on the inside. Brilliant! And they just get better and better the more you wear them.

The Vermonter

Customer photo review of The Vermonter

These are fantastic gloves. I treated them with the recommended leather conditioner upon receipt and went to work the next day in them. The break-in was minimal, and the seams and excess (I have narrow fingers) all found out-of-the-way places to go that weren’t a bother to dexterity or grip. A tight grip around axe handles and the like is so easy, and, for once, I don’t feel like I’m trying to baby my gloves or wait for the hole to develop! The extra thickness is only a benefit, not a detriment. What a great glove!

I bought these to use doing trail crew in the Adirondacks. My first two outings were in pouring rain and snow. My new gloves absolutely got put through the wringer and after oiling them up they were back on the trail the next weekend for even worse abuse. I am very pleased with these so far.

These gloves handled 5 cords of wood, through a splitter and stacked. No other glove, you can buy, ever came close to looking this good after putting up wood for the winter. Support Americans making a great product for a reasonable price. Their product outlasts 5 of any other brand, anywhere. JD Reynolds

I never thought I'd find a quality made pair of gloves that will hold up for a long time to come. Well, I believe I have found them. I loved these so much that I dedicated my first pair to ball playing with my 7 year old Doberman, he still loves to play ball and these gloves help keep my hands clean and a good grip on the balls when playing. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a glove that will last for a long time.

Just got the vermonter gloves today and they're the best I've had. I used to cycle through $8 wells lamont gloves they were okay and honestly exceeded expectations for the price but these are on another level. If you want serious protection and comfort, VG is it. They even did a little customization to help me pack these gloves on my rucks better. Totally worth the extra money.

The last brand of gloves I'll ever own - I can get 2-3 seasons of hard riding with a pair. Exceptional quality - I even made a special request for reinforcement where I see concentrated wear and they were happy to accommodate.
